Bee Clever

Who we are.

Bee Clever is an online 11+ tuition service led by Jamie, an experienced teacher and school leader with a strong background in evidence‑based teaching. We create a structured, predictable learning environment that supports all children – including autistic and ADHD learners – to feel calm, capable, and in control.

Our approach is warm, organised, and highly intentional. We focus on clarity, consistency, and high‑quality teaching that helps children build confidence and make steady, meaningful progress.

11+ Entrance Exam Support & Classes

Our mission.

Bee Clever exists to make 11+ preparation calm, structured, and accessible for every child. We believe that children learn best when they feel safe, supported, and understood.

Our teaching is designed to reduce stress, build confidence, and help learners make steady progress toward grammar school entrance exams across the United Kingdom.

I cannot recommend enough Jamie! He is an amazing tutor, providing us parents with regular personal feedback on our son’s progress and area of improvement but also guiding us on the 11+ process itself!

Jamie in our view, has been first class as my son’s 11+ tutor, and I couldn’t recommend him more highly. Jamie has made a remarkable difference not just in his academic development but also in his confidence and overall attitude towards learning.

Our Ethos

What we believe.

Every child deserves to learn in a way that feels manageable and positive. We teach with clarity and purpose, building skills step by step so children understand what they are learning and why it matters.

Our methods – visual scaffolds, clear modelling, and predictable lesson formats – support autistic and ADHD learners and work equally well for neurotypical children who thrive with structure. We believe that when teaching is calm, clear, and consistent, children feel safe enough to take risks, ask questions, and grow.

How we teach

Helping your child learn in a way that works for them.

Our teaching is built around four core principles.

These principles shape every lesson, resource, and interaction. They ensure that children know what to expect, feel supported throughout the learning process, and develop the confidence to approach the 11+ with a sense of control rather than overwhelm.

Clarity

Children learn best when expectations are clear and routines are consistent.

Calm

A low‑stress environment reduces anxiety and supports focus.

Structure

Step‑by‑step modelling and guided practice deepen understanding.

Progress

Small, steady improvements build confidence and long‑term success.

Jamie

Founder & Lead Tutor

Hi, I’m Jamie, founder of Bee Clever Tuition.

I have spent more than twenty years working in education as a teacher and school leader. I hold a PhD from the University of Exeter and an MA from the University of Manchester, and I currently teach in a school recognised as one of the UK’s top 100 World Class Schools.

I began my career at King’s Grammar School before progressing through a range of leadership roles, including Assistant Headteacher. Over the years, I have taught thousands of students, supported teachers through professional development, lectured on the PGCE programme at the University of Exeter, and worked as an examiner. These experiences have given me a detailed understanding of how children learn and what helps them achieve their full potential.

My tutoring is calm, structured and highly personalised. My experience working with autistic and ADHD learners — both professionally and as a parent — has shaped my belief that children learn best when teaching feels predictable, manageable and encouraging.

My goal is simple: to help children enjoy learning, feel proud of their progress, and approach the 11+ with confidence.

Tara

Specialist Tutor

Hi, I’m Tara.

I’m a qualified teacher and Head of Subject with more than ten years of classroom experience. I graduated from the University of Cambridge and have taught across mathematics, English and a range of learning pathways, giving me a broad understanding of how different students learn and succeed.

Alongside my teaching role, I work as an examiner, which gives me valuable insight into how assessments are designed and what students need to do to achieve their best outcomes. This helps me provide focused, effective support that builds both understanding and exam confidence.

My teaching style is calm, patient and encouraging. I have extensive experience supporting pupils with SEND, including autistic and ADHD learners, and I believe children make the best progress when they feel secure, understood and confident in their abilities.

My goal is simple: to help every student make steady, meaningful progress and develop the confidence to achieve their potential.
